13th January - Today's News: Warnings and Closures as Storm Brendan Hits British Isles

A warning of 'several hours of very dangerous weather' as Storm Brendan hits Ireland today whilst all Western Isles schools closed after severe gale warning.   England likely to be worse affected by a secondary low tomorrow. 

But over in the west of Canada, B.C. shivering under harsh winter conditions


Meanwhile fires wreak destruction on Kosciuszko National Park that could take centuries to recover from, rangers say (Kosciuszko is Australia's highest hill, and the area has a number of bothy-like shelters, it's not clear whether any of these were destroyed) and  drought declared for the entirety of NSW, but at least there is some rain forecast




The hills are turning greener, with plant life expanding in the Everest region
