It was reported earlier this week that Japan had had it's hottest August since 1946, and now the Japanese Met Agency have confirmed that overall their summer this year was the warmest since records began in 1898. Last year there was a decrease in global carbon dioxide emissions - no doubt in part due to the global recession. Emissions from India and China rose, as you'd expect. With rapidly growing and increasing affluent populations, they'll not be reducing emissions and decade soon.

At face value UK emissions look like they have decreased 15% or 16% since 1990. But if you take in carbon embedded in our imports, our emissions have gone up about 12%. We've got to be more open about this.
Basically, we get Indonesia to produce cheap goods for us, their emissions consequently go up, ours go down. Net emissions overall are also higher because Indonesia is likely to be less energy efficient plus there is additional transportation.
