Tunisia: Record rainfall causes deadly floods - some places received the equivalent of half a year's rain from a day of thunderstorms


They have been widely (mis)reported in the UK media today (even by the Times), but speculations on imminent Katla eruption were premature, says geophysicist. The report on which the stories are based simply says nothing of the sort!

And the UK could face droughts next spring after summer heatwave, experts warn - to which I'll add my name.   September here will be yet another dry month and after a few days of wind and rain settled weather looks set for the next couple of weeks.  Below average rainfall over the winter could cause problems.   Will 2019 be 1976 to this year's 1975?
