11th January - Today's News: UK's Coldest January Night Since 2010

Not quite an ice day in my garden yesterday, with the temperature very briefly rising to +0.3c - remarkable though given there was neither snow nor fog.   Today we do have freezing fog though, after an overnight minima of -7.3c (not in itself that unusual)  so we could beat that.    In Scotland though the temperature drops to -18.7C in Highland village - with some unofficial sites getting down to around -20c.   The lowest January temperature since 2010.

12th March - Today's News: Channel Snowstorm Causes Chaos

With a max of +1.7c yesterday was my coldest March day on record, whilst a flurry produced a slight dusting here this morning .....  Somewhat colder and snowier down towards the Channel though as hundreds of drivers left stranded overnight as storm causes traffic chaos across the South-east .   In the Channel Islands, Jersey Airport suspends flights for second day   whilst Guernsey snow hits schools, roads, buses and airport .  There's been some impressive drifting too. Roads, flights and trains hit by snow in France as other parts of Europe gripped by winter weather outbreak as well. Meanwhile, snow and ice cause travel chaos in Scotland   but up in Sutherland and the Hebrides they could do with snow as Highland crews called on to tackle wildfires - it's that season again. UK Extremes: Comparing May 2020 with May 2024

We all remember May 2020.  That gloriously long, hot, sunny month when we were all stuck at home due to the Covid lockdown.  It must have been hotter than May 2024, surely?   Hence so many on social media questioning how this May could have been the warmest on record.
