And winter arrives in Scotland as snow a foot deep hits Cairngorms - but it won't hang around for long.




Despite predictions it could be their warmest October day on record, there was sweet, cool relief last night after mercury topped out at 37.3c in Sydney - almost a degree below the record of 38.2c recorded in 2004.   Meanwhile, southeast Queensland seleters through hottest October in eight years.
